years in the business? One

What does your business do? “We are a group fitness studio. We only do aerobic fitness. We have a few different formats for our classes, but for the most part, we do a 50-minute high-intensity interval workout. A full-body workout,” Langos said.

All this in the air? “Yes. The device we use is called an air hammock. Basically, it’s a piece of fabric that is twisted and held with beams in place. It sits about hip height. This allows the hammock to be used to increase the intensity of the exercise or to allow for an adjustment of the exercise.”

How did you discover aerobic fitness? “I started doing yoga….I was walking around the southwestern suburbs heading to different yoga studios. One Sunday, I was on this app called Mindbody. They were doing an aerial yoga workshop….I went to the workshop and fell in love with it.” Immediately. It was the coolest thing I’ve ever done and it felt really good.

“I hooked up with the teacher of that class. …Shortly after that, I learned how to teach aerial yoga. I ended up teaching it for six years in another studio in downtown Naperville. …From there, I knew I wanted to open the studio mine at the end.

“I found this franchise, AIR Aerial Fitness. They are all over the country. Two in Chicago and one in Winnetka. Once I realized what it was all about, my vision and goals aligned with what they were offering. So, I’m allied with them.”

How has the pandemic affected your business? “We started planning for the studio opening in Naperville in 2019 and the outbreak (in 2020). What a surprise. … Meanwhile, the company announced that the Denver location would be closing. I said, ‘Absolutely not. Impossible.'” So, I finished acquiring Studio Denver in July of 2020, which is when I moved here. In the meantime, we were still cohabiting with Studio Naperville. It took longer than anticipated, but we opened in May 2021.”

What does Denver look like? “I love it so much. I really….I was willing to take that risk, to get a new life in Denver.”

What will you do? “I am a licensed realtor in Colorado and Illinois.”

What does it mean to be a realtor and fitness expert? “I’ve been teaching yoga since early 2010. So, I’ve been doing yoga, fitness and movement in my back pocket. Yoga and working out makes me sane enough to handle the volume of (real estate) transactions. It can be stressful at times.”

What do you like most about AIR Aerial Fitness? “Exercise is fun. …There’s this sexy element to it. You’re upside down sometimes. …That’s what draws people to it, but at the end of the day, it’s an effective workout. …I have a lot of upper body strength. Lots of Core strength. I don’t feel like I was in the gym snoring and sweating.”

what do you like also? “The societal side. I watch people walk in through the doors very scared and scared of the hammock. After a few months on the road, their clothes are getting smaller, their smiles getting brighter. They make real friendships with other people who come into the studio and the classes. This is prevalent in both of our studios.”

Is Naperville good for business? “I wasn’t sure at first about downtown Naperville. Parking can be a nightmare. …but the traffic was great. It’s easy to get to the parking garage. This was a selling point for me. I love being part of the downtown business community City of Naperville, (and he is) very supportive of each other.”

What misconceptions might people have? “People think this is a silly fun thing and they will try it once. Yes, there is some novelty in it because it is so different. But what will surprise people is that if they stick with this exercise, if they come three times a week or more, they will find that it is incredibly effective and really fun. They will be in great shape without even realizing it.”

What are the challenges you face? “Getting the word. Then, getting people to get over the initial fear of attending first class. …Anyone can do it.”

What is your advice to someone starting a business? “Don’t forget the people around you in your community because these are the people who will help you. They want to.”
