1. LA Fitness

LA Fitness is back in the Best of Orange County ranking, and this year readers showed even more love, naming it the best fitness center. LA Fitness’ mantra calls it “one place for all the ways you work out” and with all that this major gym chain has to offer, it’s not easy to name it.
The Irvine-based company has been around since 1984 and has more than 700 clubs in the United States and Canada. LA Fitness attributes its growth to understanding and meeting the needs of each community it serves. The locations offer everything from group classes like cycling, yoga, Zumba, kickboxing cardio, Aqua Fit, Pilates and more to personal training, basketball, tennis, weight room and heated pools.
Seniors have the opportunity to work on their strength and energy while being led by instructors in our Senior Fit and SilverSneakers classes. Meanwhile, parents can burn some calories while their kids spend time in the kids’ club with background-screened babysitters.
Club members can schedule a free fitness assessment to check their current fitness level and body composition, get a customized schedule for achieving their fitness goals, as well as an overview of gym equipment and a quick workout with the coach.

24 Hour Fitness has been in the industry for over 35 years with a commitment to “creating a happier and healthier world through fitness”. One of the major gym chains in the United States, the company operates nearly 300 clubs in 11 states nationwide. In Orange County alone, it feels like there’s a club in nearly every mall, making it convenient for members to work out wherever they are.
The clubs offer a variety of Cardio, Strength, Cycle, Dance, Mind-Body and Active Aging classes as well as options for virtual coaching and lessons. Personal training, basketball, weight room, cardio machines, swimming pools, and saunas are options for members.
Not every location has all amenities and not every type of membership allows full access to everything 24 hour fitness has to offer, but you will likely find a mix to meet your fitness needs.
3. The Mirage Jewish Community Center in Orange County

It’s no surprise to see the Merage Jewish Community Center in Orange County once again in the top three fitness centers. Located in a 220,000-square-foot facility, The J is truly a place where anyone can find something to do regardless of age, fitness level, or creed (no, you don’t have to be Jewish to join).
During the pandemic shutdown, Merage has moved fitness equipment and outdoor classes, which has proven successful, maintaining a hybrid indoor/outdoor model.
“We’ve expanded and spent a significant amount of time talking to our members and figuring out what they want on the outside, what they want on the inside, and how to best meet their needs,” said Marketing and Communications Director Shar Williams Cavett.
Aside from fitness classes, equipment, and a pool, J offers activities for kids so the whole family can participate. They also have daily passes if you’re not ready to commit to joining in the long run.
